Ongoing friction between Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire and members of a local sexual assault victim collaborative are threatening to shatter the advocacy effort, documents obtained by the Savannah Morning News revealed.
Those fissures have been brewing since at least 2014 and resulted in a series of confrontations involving local law enforcement and prosecutors as well as nonprofit agencies designed to assist those victims. They also recently have resulted in two confrontational appearances by center executive director Kesha Gibson-Carter before Savannah City Council and devolved into social media posts attacking Chatham County District Attorney Meg Heap and her office’s handling of rape cases.
